My Story

Adrienne Camille Garrett

As A Daughter

Life gave me wonderful parents, a beautiful Mother, W. Mae Garrett and My Father, Clarence Garrett. After remarrying, Adrienne was raised by her Mother and Father Mae & Artie Bailey. She was born, raised and baptized at the Emmanuel Baptist Church because that’s how her Momma rolled. Even though they have gone on before me, I still took joy in reminiscing about them and my life.

As A Federal Employee

Adrienne worked for the United States Government with the Social Security Administration where she became a name to know. She served from October 1964 until Retirement. It was there in true form of her nature that she United with and became an advocate of the American Federation of Government Employees. She proudly represented her Local & AFGE as Shop Steward, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Chief Negotiator and Fair Rights & Practices Women’s Coordinator - which was a National Position - YES!!! She had mad skills.

As A Church Member

In 1980, Adrienne was invited to come and worship with a Co-Worker/Friend Elvira Miller at Open Door Mission True Light Mission church where soon thereafter she joined and remained a faithful member for 30 years. After joining Adrienne thirst for the Word increased. She then enrolled in Main Bible Institute where she received a Certificate. One of her very first positions at Open Door True Light Mission Church was being The Voice of Open Door which she was honored to do. Adrienne served on The Nurses Unit; The Usher Board; Choir Member; Praise Team and Vacation Bible School. Adrienne remained active until her health would not allow her to attend. Adrienne was known for always being well dressed with a bow and ruffle and shoes that made you say “I See You” and a upswing bun.

As a Mother

Children are an inheritance of the Lord and her 4 children and their families were such a joy to her. She leaves to Cherish her memory, Serena Garrett, Tanya Hagins, Henry Garrett and Robyn Garrett. 1 Son-In-Love Tim. 6 Grandchildren TJ, Shanice, Darnell, Timeir, CassieRai and Kayla. As well, she learned her legacy included her 4th generation - garnering her the Double G Title with anticipation of Jaylen Tobias Hagins. She loved All and Everyone loved her, especially her faithfuls to the end - Sister King, Melissa Hagins & Just Because Crew. They are all my inheritance and will live on as a praise and testimony to the goodness and mercy of the lord.

As I Bid You Farewell

When an Artist paints a picture, he uses single brush strokes. When we look at the picture while it’s being painted, we can see those individual brush strokes. It’s doesn’t resemble a picture, but the artist knows what he’s painting and how he wants it to look when it is completed. That’s what my life is. God painted it a brush stroke at a time. You saw me, one stroke at a time. Maybe you saw my joys or sadness, just a brush stroke. My children, my activities, my faith, my love, my parents, my family and friends just another brush stroke. You were each a part of the picture that was my life, the brush strokes of my parents, my children and grandchildren, my auxiliaries, my work, my friends, and my neighbors, all individual brush strokes. But today, they have all come together. My life is completed and you can see the finished picture, the masterpiece of God. It’s been a wonderful life. I love each one of you and I’ll see you again.
