Amy Denise Ray was born on October 21, 1966 to the late Earl Ray Sr and Martha Hinton Ray, in Philadelphia, PA. She entered eternal rest on Monday March 1, 2021. Amy was named after her grandmother, the late Bishop Amy Ray Stevens and was proud to be called Nana’s “Name Sake.”
She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and savior and was baptized at Mt. Olive Holy Temple, Philadelphia, PA in her early youth. She later was a member of many church auxiliaries, and immense joy in being a Missionary to serve others. Amy continued serving the Lord faithfully and with gladness. She loved the Lord and it was apparent by her daily walk and communication and visiting and praying with anyone in need.
Amy was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. She attended Murrell Dobbins AVTS High School later transferred and graduated from Martin Luther King High School with honors. Amy was a member of the school’s gospel choir and tennis team. Amy was a U.S. Army Veteran; she would discuss how she would come to the aid of many of the young women in her platoon. Giving them direction, guidance or a swift kick if needed.
Amy started her federal employment at the Department of Veterans Affairs in the beginning of 1985. She held several positions from file clerk later to supervisor of the file room (Broad and Cherry) until the office merge to the main Philadelphia VAMC hospital and assigned to Compensation and Pension Service. She challenged and encouraged everyone—from trainees to fellow coworkers—to do his or her best. Amy later retired due to her Lupus medical illness which she endured many difficult challenges and still never complained due to her faith and strength in God.
Amy was a loving daughter, devoted and proud mother, an awesome sister, and an amazing aunt and great aunt. She was a dedicated supporter of our Philadelphia sports teams (specially the Eagles) wearing her jerseys and shouting support for their play when watching the games.

Rest Well Mom, I know our last conversation you told me it was nothing left for me to do, but we come together today to lay you at the throne for you to receive your wings fly high and watch over us as only you can, til we meet again.
