Obituary for Lillian G. Cooper

Lillian Geraldine Cooper (nee Huff) made her heavenly transition early Saturday morning, May 29, 2021, at the age of ninety-one. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Earl A. Huff and Helen Monroe Huff on August 12, 1929. Lillian had four siblings – Evelyn, Earl, Helen, and Donald - all of whom preceded her in death. Lillian was raised in New Jersey, South Philadelphia, and North Philadelphia, and she resided for a large portion of her adult life in Germantown.

She was the wife of James R. Farmbry, and later, Henry J. Cooper, both of whom are deceased. Her marriages produced five children: James R. Farmbry (Christine), Larry W. Farmbry (Deidre), Roslyn C. Porter (Kevin), Henry Jerome Cooper (Avis), and Allison L. Cooper, Lillian’s constant companion for the rest of her life after her husband Henry passed away. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Kyle Farmbry, C. Ayanna Farmbry (Frederick Newman), Aaron Farmbry (Tamika), Margo Rollins, Steven Cooper, and Marisa Cooper, and six great-grandchildren: Aaron Farmbry, Jr., Tiyana-Erin Farmbry, Anthony (TJ) Taylor, Tylar Farmbry, Aleyah Farmbry, and Sage Moore-Davis. She also helped raise two “bonus” sons, Tony Corbin and Shawn Butler, providing loving guidance as if they were her own children.

Lillian was educated in Philadelphia public schools. She was a dispatcher for Yellow Cab Company until she found her dream job as an educator in the Philadelphia public schools, spending most of her career at Pickett Middle School at Wayne and Chelten Avenues. Her hobbies were reading her Bible, shopping at Lord and Taylor’s, and watching her game shows, especially Family Feud with Steve Harvey. She found great joy in eating Godiva chocolate while wrapping Christmas gifts, and she also loved Haagen Dazs popsicles.

Lillian shared her time, talents, and treasure as an active member of New Gethsemane Baptist Church. She provided service in many capacities as a member of the Young at Heart Senior Ministry, the Flower Club, as treasurer of the Missionary Ministry, and as president and vice-president of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Lillian leaves to mourn nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, including her special “go everywhere” friend and buddy,” Nancy Hall.
